ADF College Cancer Scholarship

The Board of Directors for ADF will screen the applications and the applicant’s essays to make their final decision. The recipient will then be chosen by vote from the Board of Director’s for ADF. The recipient will be awarded a $1000 scholarship.

Scholarship Requirements

  • Scholarships for post high school education are made available to pediatric patients / survivors and  / or children to enable them to pursue educational program’s at accredited two-year Colleges, four-year colleges and universities, vocational-technical schools or other institutions of higher learning;
  • Recipients must enroll no later than the school year following the announcementof the awards;
  • Scholarships are not automatically renewable;
  • Past recipients are eligible but must reapply in subsequent years with a letter of good standing from the registrars’ office;
  • A letter of acceptance from the college you will be attending. If applicant does not have a letter of acceptance, please list the colleges to which the applicant has applied. When acceptance letter is received, please notify ADF Director as soon as possible.
  • Students are required to maintain a minimum of 12 hours per semester / full time student.
  • Transcript of academic records from school which you have most recently attended.
  • A 500 word essay is required by applicant that provides information about your background, the type of pediatric cancer the patient/survivor was or is being treated for. Also, include how pediatric cancer has impacted your life. Current community involvement, awards, and recognition received for school or community activities. Applicant is encouraged to add future goals and or career opportunities.
  • Three letters of recommendation from the faculty from your high school or post-high school, college that the applicant attends.
  • Doctor’s statement is required certifying that the patient/survivor is a pediatric patient and the type of cancer from the treating doctor. Summary of cancer treatment including date of diagnosis, place of treatment, health status and doctor’s contact information.
  • Application must be completed and postmarked by March 1, 2010 to be accepted and reviewed. Applicant must return application with a recent picture with all the above information.
  • Any information not included will automatically disqualify applicant.
  • Recipients must be willing to attend regional events associated with the scholarship awarded and available for interviews or media coverage. Alex Dinkel Foundation reserves the right to use photographs and / or statements of scholarship recipients in any foundation promotional materials.

Scholarship monies will be made payable directly to the post-secondary school. Scholarship monies may be used for tuition, fees, books, and on campus housing.
